The goal of our clothing swaps is to bring awareness to the major issues caused by fast fashion and serve as a simple way to avoid it. Participants swap valuable but no longer used items for new, free clothing. Our clothing swaps are not just a smart way to replenish one's wardrobe, but also an act of environmental sustainability.
Fast fashion refers to cheaply produced and priced items that replicate the latest styles. Although this may sound harmless, it actually creates many issues across the world. Production and consumption rates have increased immensely which has made fast fashion one of the largest polluters globally. Additionally, many workers (majority young women) are treated poorly. They often have extremely low wages, long hours, and unsafe working conditions.
A clothing swap event is 100% free, allowing everyone to participate without any cost. During the event, each participant can exchange five gently worn items for five new ones, providing an opportunity to refresh their wardrobe sustainably and economically. This eco-friendly approach promotes recycling and reduces clothing waste while fostering a sense of community among participants. In terms of left over clothing, we donate all extra pieces to Hubbard House, a domestic violence shelter in Jacksonville, Florida.
